Lipstick Buying and Application: Mistakes to Avoid
Lipstick is one of the very basic makeup products that you need to look confident and beautiful. Available in both soothing and bold shades, lipsticks can define your face in a whole new way. They come in both matte and glossy finishes too, whether you want to impress at a board meeting or rock a cocktail party. Nevertheless, you need to avoid these common lipstick mistakes if you want to look well put together:
Wrong color
Lipstick, like foundation, must be matched with your skin tone. If you do not know the right way to find the perfect lip shade for your skin tone, the whole look can go wrong. So, remember, an excessively dark lipstick can make your other facial features fade away, and a too pale color can give you a dull look. You need to avoid these common lipstick mistakes.
Color does not match the occasion
While you can choose from a wide range of lipstick shades these days, it should go well with the occasion. Like, a neon green glitter-intensive lipstick may be cool for photoshoots, but it is not the best choice for work. Sophisticated shades go with classy occasions. A classy red or nude shade can never go wrong. Bold colors can be used for evening events.
Not lining the lips
Apply a lip liner if you do not want a sloppy ring of color around your mouth. Feathering and bleeding can mar your appearance and the lip liner will give the lipstick something to adhere to. So, outline your lips with a color that is one shade darker than your lipstick color. The line should be drawn slightly outside your natural lips.
Applying too much gloss
No doubt, lip gloss supplements the lipstick and makes your lips look fuller, but do not go overboard with it. Too much gloss can lend you an unnatural look.
Not exfoliating beforehand
Lipsticks can accentuate dry fine lines if applied on cracked and chapped lips. Dry lips can cause unsightly creasing too. If you want to achieve a smooth and even sheen, use some exfoliating scrubs before applying lip color.
Lipsticks with no moisture
Matte lipsticks are rather unforgiving when it comes to moisture. Always make sure you have lavishly moisturized your lips before applying such lipsticks, to seal in hydration. Or, you can buy lipsticks with a higher content of natural butters, waxes, and oils.
Not doing the blotch test
It can be embarrassing to find that your lipstick is smeared across your teeth. The easiest fix is to do a blotch test. After blotting your lips on a tissue, stick your index finger between pursed lips, and close your lips while pulling it out. Any excess lipstick should have come off on your finger.
Not testing the lipstick
Always try the tester of your lipstick on your hand below the palm and check for its expiry date. Expired products can cause side effects.
So, avoid these common lipstick mistakes if you want to look gorgeous and tasteful. Also, remember to choose other makeup items like foundation, eye shadow and blush carefully, so that the whole look wows.
